Classified Wine & Spirits
Fine Wines for Texas
Classified Wines is a full-service wine and spirits sales and marketing organization with expertise in the Texas market.
Our mission is to provide quality representation and local sales management to a select group of wine and spirits producers.
Our goals are to provide wineries, distillers, importers, distributors, chain stores, retailers and restaurants with the service, experience and skills necessary to develop brands, achieve account distribution, foster a strong positive market image and achieve profitable sales. We provide our clients with the best information, experience, inventory management and overall service available in the market today.
The key to our success is our ability to provide context and focus to the local market on a daily basis. We put equal emphasis on creating long-term relationships between wineries and distributors and on creating long-term relationships across the entire supply chain — including all types of on and off premise accounts and the final consumer. This is how brands build repeat business.
We take great pride in the quality of our wines. We also genuinely enjoy working in and being a part of the wine industry. While we acknowledge that we are all in business, we are passionate about what we do and believe making wine pretentious and unapproachable is a disservice to our goals.

David Smith, Owner
David has over 30 years experience in the Texas wine market, working all major markets including DFW, Houston, Austin/San Antonio, Rio Grand Valley, El Paso and West Texas. He has statewide on-premise, chain and off-premise fine wine wholesale and supplier management experience
David’s first wine experience was working in package stores while attending college in Boston. In 1979, He began working in the wholesale wine trade in Houston. In 1981, David and two business partners started a Houston-based fine wine company with David at the helm of marketing and sales. In 1985, David moved to Austin where, as a wine broker, he introduced and built brands that grew in a three-year period from zero to over 40,000 cases. In addition, he placed and successfully managed limited allocation wines.
After getting married, David decided to get off the road and took a job as a fine wine specialist. Next he became the Central and South Texas fine wine manager for American Wine Company. Later, he accepted a position as wine manager at Glazers, where he worked until he returned to school to earn his MBA in Management and Marketing. As a consultant, David worked with several CPG companies including large multinationals and smaller, family-owned firms.
In 2003, David founded a sales and marketing consulting company and Classified Wine & Spirits was born in partnership with Paul Kundrouf. David has helped many wineries be successful at both large and small wholesalers, building brands with chain stores, restaurants and fine wine shops.
The business flourished so in 2007, Classified Wine & Spirits hired Cody Upton to manage and grow the North Texas market. David still maintains his Austin home, although he does travel to most of the major European and West Coast growing areas. David considers himself lucky to be able to travel among three places
